  • Start with a long, strong, nylon rope
  • Throw or float the line to the vessel needing assistance
  • Make sure your engine is in neutral
  • Towed boat should have outboard or outdrive down to aid in steering
  • If boat is grounded then outboard or outdrive should be up
  • Rig tow line in a "V" on the stern cleats of your boat to aid in control and keep line clear of prop
  • Start slowly and proceed with caution
  • Keep clear of towline
  • Have a sharp knife handy on each boat in case of emergency
